Former AMORPHIS Bassist Speaks Out In Defense Of METALLYSEE BOOKING AGENCY
June 20, 2004Former AMORPHIS and current MANNHAI/CHAOSBREED bassist Oppu Laine has sent the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
"I would like to comment and air some thoughts based on the debate that was raised due to the cancellation of DEICIDE's European tour, where Metallysee booking agency was accused by certain persons of unprofessional work ethics (Story#1, Story#2, Story#3, Story#4).
"Our first tour with AMORPHIS was a European tour in 1994 organized by Johan and Metallysee, and my experiences as well as memories from that tour are only positive.
"Johan did a lot of work operating simultaneously as a driver, roadie, merchandise seller and tour manager. We traveled on a camper van on which most of today's spoiled musicians wouldn't step their foot on. Perhaps due to this reason we got paid a lot better by Metallysee than by any other 'big budget'-tour organizers in the '90s.
"To me Johan (or Hercules, as we called him) struck as a hard-working, enthusiastic and a fair organizer of smaller metal tours, even though him being constantly awake for almost two weeks felt a bit suspicious for us freshmen musicians.
"However, the next tour AMORPHIS did 10 days later — a North American tour together with ENTOMBED — was done in truly bad conditions. But neither did we feel like complaining under those circumstances either.
"All in all, when you go on gigs you should dress up in shitty clothes to begin with as well as get used to a lot of waiting and the sweet aromas of shit and urine. If this doesn't appeal to you, then you'd better think of doing something else or start playing more commercial and lightweight music."
